A few fun deets
Grew up in Michigan.
Cheered on Notre Dame football my entire life.
Was homeschooled and am thoroughly ashamed of the fact.
Switched my college major from business to journalism because I decided eating was optional.
Moved out of Michigan for the first time at 20 to transfer to college in Ohio.
Graduated after five 18-credit semesters, two simultaneous part-time jobs and surviving on pure cynicism and filching my roommates’ groceries.
Worked three years in the only job I’ve ever loved in the backwoods of Virginia, then left for a job I hated in DC because it paid twice as much money. C’est la vie, journalism. Requisite in pace.
Thoroughly immersed myself in the world completely opposite of the rural Shenandoah with parties, the best friends I’ve made in my life, Arlington bars, monuments, black heels, pencil skirts and traffic that leaves your forehead and your steering wheel on intimate terms.
In a fit of whimsy, decided after a year and half of glam to move to Annapolis and work in politics. Now I walk down brick streets past ships and officers with pumpkin spice lattes and cool bay breezes.
Life is weird. It takes you down paths you’d never dreamed of six months ago, a year ago, ten years ago.
Stay in touch!
I love comments and feedback. I’m not offended by people who disagree with me, but keep it classy!

Oh, Mariann! I miss you. I’m slightly jealous of the bay breezes though. We need to call each other and catch up! Lots of exciting things are happening in the house of Brindle! BTW, I always love your writing! Never stop!

Really, did you not like being homeschooled?
Sadly, no. It wasn’t a good experience for me. But rural Michigan is very different than, say, DC, so I acknowledge everyone’s experience is different.
Former homeschoolers unite! 🙂 Just clicked thru from 7QT.
Glad you did!! Air high-five, haha 🙂
Clicked through from Grace’s blog today. Former Annapolitan here… I may have to start following your blog for a taste of home. I miss it!
Please do! I love Annapolis so much … if I ever have to leave, I will be plunged into homesickness 😦
As a homeschooling mom I think you need to check your ego. Homeschooling parents give of themselves in a extreme way, such self sacrifice is not found in any other walk of life. Why? So we can have our kids say they were ashamed of it—no, so we can have known in our souls we are doing what God calls us to for the salvation of our own and our children’s souls. I really hope your mom never reads how you are ashamed of being homeschooled, as I would be devestated by that. What a slap in the face!
Hey Gabby I thought about deleting your judgey comment … but I’ll keep it up, mostly because my mother has an awesome sense of humor and will think it’s funny.
Best response ever.
Ah, a lovely “solo homeschoolo” troll. Good response, Mariann. Snaps. I’m with ya.
Hi! I don’t have a blog. Yet. But I love reading them. I don’t comment a lot but wanted you to know that I clicked over from camppatton, too. I live in Texas but once knew someone from Maryland and have always wanted to visit. Love your gracious comment above, btw. 😉
Aileen
Aileen, I hope you can visit Maryland some day! So much history here and lots of natural beauty. My goal is to visit Assateague Island this summer (the island with all the wild ponies). Stop by often 🙂
